DescriptionEl Eternauta by Oesterheld and Lopez... I could write an essay on this. Actually, I did for CFA-APA.El Eternauta was written by Hector German Oesterheld and drawn by Francisco Solano Lopez for Oesterheld's publishing company, Editorial Frontera. It was serialized from 1957 to 1959 in the Hora Cero magazine. It tells the story of Juan Salvo and several of his friends as they notice a strange snow start to fall on their city. This is no ordinary snow and the beginning of something much bigger that sees Juan and his friends fighting to save humanity. A great story but like many of Oesterheld's works, strong political undertones. It is seen as a critique of the government. El Eternauta was reworked in 1969 by Oesterheld and illustrated by Alberto Breccia. This comic along with biographies of Che Guevara and Evita Peron led to the writer having to go into hiding and eventually becoming among the thousands of "disappeared" in Argentina. Fantagraphics has recently published this work for the first time in English and I would recommend it to anyone interested in a good comic read. You will note when comparing the original art to the Fantagraphic's published version, reformatting occurred. The original series was serialized so there were empty title boxes that needed to be removed for the formatting. In this case, one of the panels was removed all together. Social/Sharing |

Fantastic couple of pages from this legendary series! This one is my favorite due to the classic nocturnal setting and the gloomy atmosphere.

This page, and the previous one, are great addictions to your gallery. This one, in particular, shows a masterly wotk of lights and shadows.
