I stumbled across this wonderful piece, again, on Anthony’s website. Even as a thumbnail, it immediately got my attention. When I clicked to make it full size, I was blown away. In fact, I was so busy staring at the image, that I almost forgot to check the artist credit. My reaction upon learning it was the legendary Gonzalo Mayo, was total shock. I don’t think I said it out loud, but in my head, I was like, WTF????? I am so impressed by Gonzalo’s ability to mimic the animation style of the film. You would almost think he was one of the actual animators. I also love that it’s almost a full cast drawing. My one, very minor, nitpick is that I would have preferred to see Pegasus here, perhaps instead of Nessus (although the centaur does make for a very compelling visual). But to have a full drawing that includes, not only the title character, but also Meg, Phil, Hades, Pain & Panic. And complete with background elements. All wonderfully rendered by a legendary artist. What more could you ask for in a Disney piece? My thanks, yet again, to Anthony Snyder and his entire crew of ultra-efficient art elves. The usual fast, friendly, 5-star, service. Definitely lots more to come from Anthony. Social/Sharing |

Oh yeah, VHS baby! But I got you beat with my trifecta of a VCR, a flip phone, and dial-up internet. There are tech dinosaurs, and then there's ME. LOL!

He has a powerful weapon
He charges a million for art
An art dealer that's second to none
His wife gives him cake and sons...
Posting your Hercules art day
Was shipped from New Jersey somewhere
Animation on this very one
The Gonzalo Mayo fun...
Love is required when Mayo is hired
The art line shows how he thrills
No one can catch him, no draftsman can match him
For his million dollar skill

I love the trees in the background as well as the swirling ground. Agree that he looks like one of the original animators with it. Awesome piece.

Agreed. The full backgrounds are impressive and a nice bonus. Again, I have no idea what this was done for, but he put a lot of work into it. Hard to imagine this was just for fun. Most likely licensing material, but would be nice to know the source. reference. Thanks for the comment buddy!

it's been quite a lot of years from my last rewatch of Disney's Hercules... I believe it's time to put the disc back in the Blu-ray player :)
and this illustration is pretty much amazing, perfectly captures the style adopted in the movie!

Wow - this is GREAT, Eric, and those backgrounds are out of this world! I actually have never seen 'Hercules', but you've convinced me I need to rectify that with this cool piece (and your thoughts on it). Great Mayo piece, man - you probably won't find many more by him like this... :) Score!!

Sweet! Got all the main characters there. I know this is not as heralded as some of the other Disney Renaissance animated films of the time, but it was definitely fun, and holds up well! Always dug how the characters were designed. Congrats!
