Description

This is a page from issue #2 of Marvel Comics's two issue series Nightmare on Elm Street, the first of many comic series based on that popular movie franchise. It's was black and white horror comic in the proud tradition of Creepy and Eerie, expertly rendered by Tony DeZuniga and Alfred Alcala, a fine example of that tradition. The last panel was done on paper that allowed for the kind of shading you see therein.

That having been said, the franchise itself is emblematic of the kind of fiction, which itself is a sign of our culture rot, namely popular stories where evil triumphs routinely and predictably. The monsters always win and good is crushed. This comic is online and it depicts a resourceful woman who cleverly comes up with a way to defeat this particularly ugly serial killer. You know from the first panel that she's doomed, though in this case the denouement happens off camera and after the final panel. I acquired this at the Long Beach Comic Expo directly from Tony. I acquired another piece, from another artist, that I plan to post right after this and shows another trend in monster story telling.
