Description

I am always interested in the history of comics and I have a special interest in aviation themes and in flappers. Lady Bountiful was a long running strip created by Carr that ran from 1902 to 1929. Of historical importance was that Lady Bountiful was the first "balloon" comic strip to feature a female lead. I don't think I've seen many other examples of this strip elsewhere. Carr was self taught and got his first job in 1896 at the age of 15 after finishing school at a newspaper. He created his first comic strip in 1901 but will best be remembered for Lady Bountiful.

This is a Lady Bountiful example, but also an example of two beautifully drawn ladies!

First appearance of Jarvis! Mickey will get the last laugh when Lady Bountiful falls on hard times in the 30's just as he begins his accent after piloting a steamboat a year earlier.
