DescriptionA great page of Dick Giordano art from a mini-series called Jonni Thunder, A.K.A. Thunderbolt! In this series, San Francisco private eye Jonni Thunder comes into possession of a Lady Lightning statue left to her by her father. After Jonni gets electrocuted holding said statue, she is imbued with the ability to leave her own body in the form of a powerful Thunderbolt being. (Don't you just hate when that happens?)Borrowing from the 1940's character of the same name, it is basically a modern take on the Thunderbolt concept by Roy Thomas, Dick Giordano and Ernie Colon. Great page by Dick Giordano, who once told me that his favorite things to draw were beautiful women and cars. I believe he did both exceptionally well! Social/Sharing |

An incredible example of Giordano's ability to illustrate astonishingly beautiful women! Have you held the page up to a light to try to determine why all the Jonni Thunder images are paste-overs?

Ruben, I don't need to do that. I bought many pages from Dick over the years, Jonni pages included. (He lived 4 hours away from me in Palm Coast, Florida.) Most of the Jonni pages had the color hold art on vellum overlays since there was no computer technology for that in 1985. I remember there were about 6 or 7 pages that had the photostats on them AND came wit the overlay as well. Why? I have no idea. Maybe they were trying something new? Your guess is as good as mine.

Fabulous ladies of DC! Giordano's puts that 80's glam with effects and form fitting costumes that tastefully tease just enough!
