Description

When the late artist Greg Theakston first began working on his trading card art for Topps in 1992, he came up with a Princess Leia concept and then changed course to create his whimsical Jawas painting that eventually became part of the first Star Wars Galaxy trading card set. This is the unused finished painting, which shows the moment when Leia gives the Death Star plans to R-2 and is about to be discovered by Stormtroopers. Theakston painted a prelim for this piece as well. You can see Theakston’s Star Wars Galaxy Jawas painting HERE

Although I do like Jawas, Artoo has always been my favorite Star Wars character. A nice look at a card that could have been!

Classic scene with a nice symmetrical frame around the action.  Maybe it was done a few times already, being so famous of a scene, and they wanted something offbeat in the Jawas.

Yeah, I agree with you on this.  Although Theakston gave it a fresh perspective on the classic scene, the Jawas piece is original and quirky, which I think was the better creative choice on his part.
