Description

I've been a fan of Val Mayerik's art going back to his Man-Thing and Howard the Duck days. The last issues of Marvel's Frankenstein Monster comic by Mayerik are worth checking out, as well.

Based on the age of the paper, my guess is that this illustration predates Val's graphic novel collaboration with writer Jim Berry, "Of Dust and Blood: A Story from The Fight at The Greasy Grass" about the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

Mayerik's pen strokes here have an energetic, gestural quality that I like. I think the drawing reminds me a bit of the Picasso "Don Quixote" print my mom had on our living room wall when I was very small.
