DescriptionI picked this up a few years back at Wonderfest. Mark described this to me as "Cats from outer space." At one time, he was approached about doing a book featuring Robert E. Howard's character Esau Cairn. This design sheet highlighted the ravenous hunters from the planet Almuric. As always, Mark's pencils are beautifully rendered. The depth, and shading, he gets from this medium is simply amazing. His big cats are a mixture of grace, power, and ferocity. Having read the book, I can recognize the scene instantly. Seeing this, and his few other illustrations showcasing the novel, I am only sorry that the project never came to fruition.Social/Sharing |

Love this one! Mark Schultz and big cats are a great combination, much like the work of Charles R Knight-one of Mark's (and Bill Stout's) inspirations.

I would have loved to have seen this book come to fruition from Wandering Star. This piece, and a few other related works, only hint at how special it would have been. Mark really gets the feline spirit.

His work has zoomed out of my price range.

Peter,
I loved to visit with Mark at his appearances. It was like seeing atreasure trove when I looked through his portfolio. I'm thankful I was able to add my pieces years back. The current prices, though well deserved, have gone beyond my budget. I still love admiring his beautiful new work.
