Description

Of the three Enchanter covers I purchased from the original owner back in 1988, only this one came framed. As such, I can't reallly speak to its actual size, condition, medium, or materials used.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!!!!

If I had to speculate, I would guess the medium to be acrylic (as it seems too thick to be watercolor and not thick enough to be oil). The frame measures 18x22 with the matted image area measuring 14x18. I have no idea how much is hidden under the mat. The piece is signed and date 1985 in the lower left hand corner. As for the board it's painted on, I was given this story by the seller who claimed that since this was done during Mike's early years as a struggling artist, he sometimes couldn't even afford to buy art supplies and had to paint this on a piece of recycled shipping material (maybe a panel of foam core board). Obviously I can't verify any of this, but that is what I was told by the seller when I purchased it.

The painting is creases in several places. One long crease that runs down the entire left side. Several smaller creases at the top over the eye, nose, and teeth. And another one next to the left of the little boy sitting.

(July 2008) Just received an email from Mike Dringenberg who very kindly cleared up some of the particulars about this painting. He did verify that it was indeed acrylic and was intentionally done on a large piece of foam core as nothing more than an artistic experiment. The piece was subsequently bent by a baggage handler at American Airlines while Mike was on his way to SDCC in 1986. Thanks Mike!
