Description

Who is Super Goof? Goofy eats Super Goobers (peanuts) and gains incredible powers (they're similar to Superman's) and assumes the identity of Super Goof, a heroic (albeit still very clumsy) version of himself. His costume consists solely of a red union suit and a blue cape, and his nephew, Gilbert, is the only one who knows about his secret identity.

He first appeared in The Phantom Blot #2 (February 1965) by Del Connell (story) and Paul Murry (art), where he was imagining that he was a superhero. He made his first appearance as an actual superhero in Donald Duck #102 (July 1965), in the story "All's Well that Ends Awful", also by Connell and Murry.

I was in Cortona for the annual Comic Con (it's more of an artist alley, and the thing I love the most is that there are many Disney artists), and I was happy to meet Francesco again (it had been a while), so I had to "put him to work" and decided that Super Goof turning 60 was a nice subject to do in the Comic Con environment :)

I was not wrong! Look at the spectacular "Super Goof on gargoyle" piece that Francesco pulled off... the colors are amazingly vibrant (as with any color piece, the scan can't do the colors full justice, but I find my old A3 Mustek scanner better than more recent, and expensive, devices).

Can you believe that he drew and colored this A3 piece in less than 1 hour and a half?
I was there for the whole time, and it was amazing seeing how both the drawing and the coloring seemed to come seemingly effortlessly to him... just incredible!
