DescriptionThis is a bloodsucker from Swamp Thing run -- specifically, one of the Rosewood, IL vampires Marty Pasko and Tom Yeates featured in their Saga of the Swamp Thing run (The Saga of the Swamp Thing #3: "A Town Has Turned to Blood") that Alan Moore resurrected for a 1985 two-parter in our later run (Swamp Thing #38: "An American Gothic: Still Waters" and #39: "An American Gothic: Fish Story").FYI, Alan, John Totleben and I co-plotted that issue during Alan's one visit to Vermont in 1984; we cooked up the biology of the aquatic vampires (extrapolating from Richard Matheson's speculative vampire biology in his classic I Am Legend) while taking my daughter Maia Rose for a walk in the woods in Wilmington, VT. We walked around the Chimney Hill Development backroads as we did so, and I remember Maia gaily holding Alan's and my hand and swinging between us, going "wheeeeeeee!" as we worked all this crazy water vampire life cycle out! Anyway, back to the sketch -- this original sketch measures 6 3/4" x 10 1/2", drawn with black pen, markers and white correctional pen on acid-free white board. [NOTE: SOLD in MAY 2010 -- and to a GREAT new home!] Water vampire created by Alan Moore, Stan Woch, SR Bissette and John Totleben, based on original characters and concepts by Marty Pasko and Tom Yeates, and is © and TM 1982, 1985, 2009 DC Comics Inc/DC Entertainment Inc.; artwork ©2009 Stephen R. I agree with Kevin. The water vampires were truly frightening and that story will likely NEVER leave my brain. Thanks!
