Description

I bought this from Brian Howard Art and he had other pieces of this style that had no inking. Based on this, I infer that the penciller and the inker were the same person. It's obviously a romance. It's pre-code or maybe was started pre-code. the torpedoes on the blonde with all the lines emphasizing them wouldn't fly under the code.

As I mention later, this is obviously the lead artist, he does the whole splash page and all the faces, the parts where his talent would most matter. These pages are all 14+" by 23" with the borders totalling 12 1/2" by 18 1/2". this page has 3 1/2+" of blank space at the top, for the title and there is a total discontinuity between the first panel and the rest, ergo, it's the splash.

I have seen this before, especially the expression of the man in the first panel. I will say at least twice more that this guy is good, look at the expressions, not only on the main characters, but all the people on this page.

This is an interesting mix of swipes or syles- the guy is straight out of John Forte Superior line romance comics (Iger Shop) of the early 1950's- the blonde with the headlights is a swipe of a different artist maybe Mort Leav and the dark haired woman looks like yet a third artist from that era- have a couple of pencil pieces and maybe one inked piece from the same lot- very good quality- possibly Iger shop try out pages - of which a number were found years ago in Jerry Iger's piles. One of my pencil pages corresponds to a Planet story from this period
