DescriptionI am a Conan hardcore, diehard fan. I read REH's stories so many times... This year started extremely well when I was able to find what I consider the most beautiful SSoC splash page ever. Obviously I am biased. Hey... I collect Original Art so I have all sort of flaws, right ;-)It all began with a quick email exchange. I was terrified. I missed that piece twice in the past. It eluded me. Like a beautiful dream that haunts you forever... and nothing is left when you wake up. This time, I did not let go. I fought and rambled, shook the earth and won the prize. I paid in gold and sweat, sacrificed to Crom and finally... she's here. I know that many people will disagree but as far as I am concerned, this is THE cover from Buscema's run. The pain and rage on Conan's face, Belit's like a sleeping beauty that will never wake up again. That image hit me the first time and still ravages my guts when I see it. Thanks Felix for knowing everything, Mike for making this happen and John for being just a little less crazy insane than I am, love you my brother! And now, by Crom... let me cry with Conan. Cry of joy though for owning this masterpiece. Social/Sharing |

Your not alone when it comes to die hard fans but you do stand alone when it comes to owning such an iconic cover from this Conan run. With all Conan's fighting, gambling and womanizing and how huge of a legend he became, this piece showed his human side and that even he, was not above mourning the loss of a good woman. With much envy (in a friendly way) Congrats on landing such a Fantastic cover.

This is literally the ultimate Buscema Conan cover. Maybe the ultimate Conan cover, depending on how you view things. I remember when this came out -- I didn't even read Conan at the time, but I bought it anyway because of the cover, and I loved the story. I'd read the Howard version of things -- it really is a terrific piece of art, made even more so by the discovery of the unpublished version (which is great, but...it's not this one). Congratulations on this, I know you worked hard on it. Yay! I suggest drinking Opus One and staring at it.

Now that is a cover. Probably the best Buscema Conan ever and there were a lot of good ones.

Sure is a beauty. For you (and many others) an endearing, nostalgic and beloved piece of OA I am thinking this is going to stay with you a long, long time. I don't blame you. Congrats on a spectacular addition to your collection.

Insane cover. I'll put the death of Belit right up there with other significant character deaths aroudn that time (Gwen, Elektra, Jean, etc)

Ok then you're the one who snatched this beauty a few minutes before I contacted Mike. Well congrats, you know whom you can contact if you ever need to part with this one! Congrats...

Congratulations my friend, a real masterpiece, but when are you going to get a real one inked by Big John himself ? No, no I am kidding, do not take that plane, I am not selling anything !!! You are right this one has a lot of memories and this is a famous key issue, one of the top Conan cover and it's yours at last.

Congrats, buddy. Actually, I can't think of another collector more worthy of owning this cover than you--Maybe some day I'll show up on your doorstep waving a Red Nails page over my head like John Cusack in Say Anything. Bet I'll get to add this to the collection then....

This is a great acquisition to your collection! I recall being drawn in by this cover when it came out on the newstand and I bought a copy immediately (when I didn't read Conan). Brings back some fond memories seeing this here.
