Description

Karate Kid vs. Gamora by Tom Raney and Simon Gough

I first saw Tom Raney's work many years ago when he drew an issue of Silver Surfer with a crazy-looking Thanos in it, and it made a big impression on me. Later, he drew a few issues of Warlock and the Infinity Watch, and I fell in love with his take on Gamora. I have remained a big fan of Tom's through the years and followed his work on so many books, that I couldn't even begin to name them all. So, it was a huge treat for me to land a commission with Tom and have him draw Karate Kid fighting Gamora! And of course it looks freakin' awesome! Tom's Gamora looks both gorgeous and deadly, and I love that he showcases her agility here. And Tom draws a great-looking Karate Kid as well, and I love all of the details, like the folds in his costume. Years later I sent this piece over to Simon Gough to add some digital colors and he absolutely killed it! Gamora pops right off the page and those browns in Karate Kid's outfit are gorgeous! I simply could not be happier with this commission. Huge thanks to Tom and Simon for their outstanding work!

Now this would be a fight for the ages. Gamora knows nearly as many martial arts as Val Armorr, AND she's been physically augmented by Thanos. Val's gonna have to come at her with everything he's got, and he still has a chance of losing if he makes any mistakes. So it's a good thing that he rarely makes mistakes! Maybe later they could train together and talk about their (adoptive) father issues!

If you like this piece, then please do go buy some comics featuring Tom's work in physical or digital format.

And now we know how the Karate Kid dies... What a great piece- incredibly dynamic and there's just SO much to see! This piece puts Raney on my short list of artists to get a commission from!
