Karate Kid vs. Lobo by Gavin Smith and Simon Gough

Last year I read an awesome martial arts comic called Dead Legends. It was like a throwback to martial arts films of the 1970's, and that is totally my thing. The series was drawn by Gavin Smith, who I was a little familiar with already, but this book�is what made me a big fan of Mr. Smith's. Gavin has incredible storytelling skills and his fight scenes are fantastic. So of course I wanted him to contribute to my "Karate Kid vs." collection! I gave Gavin a few opponents to choose from, and he went with the Main Man himself - Lobo! Not too long afterwards, Gavin delivered�this extremely impressive commission to me! I really dig the motion effects on Karate Kid, and the fact that Val Armorr's kick came at Lobo so quickly�that he's dropped his cigar! The ink washes and tones are gorgeous, and I like how the background looks like some old, stained walls at a questionable bar. I also just really like the way Gavin draws Lobo, from the look on his face to his hair and his outfit. As usual, I sent this one over to Simon Gough and he continues�to amaze me with how he adapts his coloring style to each�different artist. This one almost feels dirty, like a fight with Lobo should be. Anywho, my hat is off to both Gavin and Simon for their exemplary work!

How would this fight go? Well, Lobo is WAY stronger than Val, but Lobo isn't nearly as skilled a fighter as Karate Kid. Lobo has been humiliated in a fight before, and it's gonna happen again here. However, once Val wins, he better skip town back to the 31st Century, because Lobo holds grudges.

Both the inked and colorized versions of this one are fantastic! You don't see many Lobo pieces, so I'm always happy when a great one pops up on CAF. Very enjoyable description as well.
