Description

Karate Kid vs. Godzilla by Benjamin Dewey

I'm pretty sure that I first encountered Benjamin Dewey's work in the 2014 comic "I Was The Cat". His style and storytelling skills were immediately impressive, and I've been following his work ever since, from The Autumnlands to Beasts of Burden to Namor to whatever else he draws. Anyway, I've been wanting a commission from him for quite some time, and I finally got one set up this year! I asked Benjamin to contribute to my "Karate Kid vs." collection, and gave him a short list of opponents to choose from. We eventually settled on the King of the Monsters himself - the mighty Godzilla! Benjamin gave me four thumbnails to choose from for a layout (see additional images), and honestly, I loved them all, but #4 was my favorite. It's a clever way to showcase both characters, despite their great size difference. And it reminds me of an old movie poster, which I love. Karate Kid and Godzilla both look incredible here, but also check out that lettering and the city around them! Benjamin absolutely killed it here, and I cannot thank him enough for his efforts!

Godzilla is a giant monster with an atomic breath attack, and Val Armorr is a human martial arts master, so who would win? Well, Val wears a Legion Flight Ring which enables him to fly at great speeds, and he can sense the weak spots in things. Val has also delivered blows which can affect Kryptonians. So if Val found a weak spot on Godzilla, like a giant pressure point, could he take the kaiju down? I think so. Would Godzilla stay down? Heck no! Godzilla always gets back up and defeats his enemy! So Val better find some help pretty quickly after he temporarily incapacitates the big guy!

I think Karate Kid will have to find Godzilla' pressure point and get through the thick hide.  Given that it's your commission, I'd give him a 99.9% chance.

Mismatch, maybe?  Which way?!  ;)  Man, love the idea of an inset panel zoomed out - perfect stuff!  Congrats!
