DescriptionThe 70's New York feel oozes off the paper. Gritty, seedy, slimy and expertly executed by the talented Alvaro Martinez Bueno. This is one of his cover quality commission examples. I simply requested the Punisher, the rest is all imagination and technique. In particular I am impressed with the range of values he employed here.Social/Sharing |

Just filled with grit and grime - a perfect demonstration to show how the Punisher sees the world. The depth in the perspective and detail is amazing. Congrats on this!

A perfect example of the greatness that can sometimes be received from a commission when you only request the character of interest and mention nothing else, leaving the commission open to the fullest extent of the artist's creativity. Great staging, composition and values. How appropriate that the artist's family name translates to "Good".

Thanks so much, Ruben. I really prize your comments. The scene is truly the star here with the Punisher being an element in the overall piece.

Oh, my pleasure. As you and others have already mentioned, Bueno produced an excellent depiction of one of the world's most famous characters, New York City, circa the late 70's into early 80's, which I often cheekily refer to as the Bernie Goetz era, as that incident during the early 80's was the first time that the seedy, dark part of NYC first entered my consciousness.

*shakes stick* I remember Times Square before Giuliani sanitized the place!
GREAT piece.

These are the best commissions - when the artist flexes creativity like this. This is exceedingly well done - love all the background elements, so much goodness to take in.I can see a bit of Bernthal in the face. Congrats and thanks for sharing!

The atmosphere and downtrodden feel of the setting is where Punisher is needed most. Spidey would never stop by this unfriendly neighborhood. You can tell that Frank belongs here with so much of the underworld to punish. While Bueno takes inspiration from the street level movies of that era, you can see he adds the garbage strike and the bright lights to further emphasize the glorious filth of the time and place.

Here it is! After the images of Batman looking over the city and his recent Daredevil piece, Punisher was a perfect choice, and boy did Alvaro deliver. I'm a huge fan of his, and you got yourself a winner here, Chris. Awesome.

Good LORD, Chris! This is just high art right here. I could stare at this for days. SO much of that pre-Giuliani NYC we only really read about these days but it's the absolute perfect setting. Even the swirling garbage is a character unto itself. VERY jealous of this pice...congrats!

Punisher meets the Deuce. A perfectly moody and grounded piece.

I've always flet that the Punisher should be kept in the timeline of the 1970s, 80s, 90s and maybe the 2000s. His character just woks far better during those days.

Frank in the thick of it...love it. And so cool that it all came from Alvario's mind. This is the world the Punisher lives in. Congrats!

I spent so long admiring the details that for a moment I forgot that this is not a photograph but the product of an artist's imagination. It's incredible.

Great piece. Love the sideway paper and the Punisher is darker then the rest of this piece. The details are insane. This is not just a commission, its a masterwork and deserve a publication.

Got the opportunity to see this one live in the Fortress of Snorek and the detail in the background is bonkers! I'm not a Punisher guy, but love the gritty 70s NY vibe -- Alvaro left it all on the page. Great piece.
