There's just something about great pencil work that you can't take your eyes off of.  Obviously as comic art collectors, we're all so used to seeing inked pages.  And of course there are so many amazing craftsman who do incredible things with ink.  But pencils are another ballgame.  And I have such a profound appreciation for those who really understand what can be achieved with them.  Congrats on this truly exceptional example.

While I enjoyed the WWII Nick Fury, the S.H.I.E.L.D version always bored me to tears. But that's what I love about comic book artistry. Even the comic book properties you feel are the most mundane can suddenly become incredibly appealing to you when just the right artist draws them! Congrats on finally landing this after all the years gone by, Chris. Killer!

Wowza! Stunning cover by Leinil Yu! I knew Leinil was a terrific artist but these gorgeous pencils are simply breathtaking. There's so much energy in this piece that Nick Fury seems to burst off the page! I am simply blown away by Leinil's artistry here!

INCREDIBLE cover, Chris!  It definitely qualifies for a "one-and-done" if you -want- it to... but that would mean you couldn't pick up any more of Leinil's work, right...? ;)  But if you did elect to rest here, you'd be -very- well off; this is a pretty damn spectacular top-shelf example of Leinil's incredibly rich and detailed pencils...  I believe the technical category would be "melt-in-your-mouth" good.  Everywhere you look, it's all dialed to 11; I mean, even Nick's -sleeves- are enthralling, for crying out loud...  But then you look at the firearms (good grief!) and Nick's face (where Leinil has Nick living up to his surname) and it leaves you utterly slack-jawed.  Leinil's investment into this project (and this cover in particular) is beyond question, and this has to be absolutely phenomenal to study in person.  Marcus commented once that Leinil Yu and Salvador Larocca were the only two artists that Marvel shot from their uninked pencils in the 90's and early 'oughts, and it's a no-brainer when you look at this.
There are a -LOT- of reasons I wish I had been able to make it to Heroes this year, but had I known I'd be able to see you in person with this cover there, I don't know that my willpower to spend Father's Day with my family could have held out... :)  An utterly insane pick up, Chris, in the very best way!  Monstrous congrats!  Love this!!

From time to time I would peak at this cover and wonder: why hasn't anyone snatched this up? It was waiting for you, clearly! One of my all-time favorite Leinil Yu covers, congrats on this fantastic pickup. Well worth the wait.

Wow!  Fantastic drawing.  Yu is reminding me a lot of classic Glen Fabry covers with this one.  Old Nick has rarely looked better!
