DescriptionWhen I first started collecting art, and before I knew what I was doing or what it would take to acquire art by certain artists, I had a dream list, and one of the top dreams was to get a Shadow page by Mike Kaluta. However, I soon learned that the pages from the much loved 1970s series were out of my reach from a financial standpoint. Recently, however, I was able to reach a happy compromise with myself and acquire a page from the movie adaptation Mr. Kaluta did back in the 1990s.The page features the Shadow, Shiwan Khan (for better or worse, Kaluta went with the classic "yellow menace" look rather than the mysterious and sexy image John Lone used in the movie), and Margo Lane in action, and it showcases both Mr. Kaluta's wonderful pulp illustration style and his incredible sense of design. I fell in love with this character and Mr. Kaluta's art when I was a kid, so, for me, a page like this is a little bit of comic book art Heaven. As compromises go, I have to admit that this one was easy to swallow. Finally, let me note that this page was made possible by the good graces of Mike Burkey of Romitaman Comic Art. I don't know how he felt about this little transaction, but to my mind, he pretty much bent over backwards to help me acquire this. He also sent me this very nice scan for us all to enjoy and I cannot thank him enough. (The scans of the cover and the printed page were borrowed from a blog called "Secret Sanctum of Captain Video." Check it out.) Social/Sharing |

Great page Tim! The movie Shadow was one of my earliest superhero movie I watched as a kid. Though I didn't know about this adaptation, it triggers my nostalgia.

This brings back soo many memories of my Uncle's treasured comics. I wasn't allowed to touch them so I would read them over his shoulder. This is a terrific page, Tim. I'm really thrilled for you. :)

Fabulous acquisition, Tim! Not only classic Kaluta, but frankly it's hard to tell this was done 20 years after his original run--which says a lot about Mike's skill! Congrats!

Great first panel with the shadow of the Shadow - however that is possible with the lightening from the gun! Artistic license I guess. Congrats Timothy!
