DescriptionThis is another fabulous piece from (and by) my friend Jonathan Wayshak. You can see more of his incredible work on his website scrapbookmanifesto.com (and also his gallery here on CAF, but there are only a few selected works there). I knew Jon had been registered on CAF for some time, but was dragging his feet about posting stuff.
Long story short, when I stopped by Jon’s booth to say hello at the show, the piece was there. Apparently, he did get it back from the gallery just in time to bring it to San Diego. In person, the piece is even more impressive than the scan. For one thing, it is HUGE! And since it was framed for the gallery show, it was even bigger! The size was great, IF you were buying a new widescreen HD television! But for something you want to transport 400 miles in a car with three people, not so great. The good news is that Jon very generously agreed to bring the piece home with him and since he’s a local guy, he was able to deliver it personally to my doorstep. How’s that for service? Anyway, the piece itself as I said is quite large. Not sure of the exact dimensions (and I will revise this description as soon as I can get an accurate measurement) but it’s probably bigger than 20x30, so it’s a big sucker. From what Jon has told me, this was the artwork for an album cover. Now I can’t help but think if this had been done before the advent of CD’s, it would’ve looked almost decent on an LP jacket (if some of you youngsters even know what an LP is, LOL), but when you shrink this down to CD size, well, that’s almost criminal when you think about all the beautiful detail that is lost. Anyway, for those of you who might care, I believe the name of the band is The Devastated. I think this is their only record and the band itself broke up in 2013. I’ve been trying to get Jon to send me a bigger scan to post, but this is all I have for now. You might want to shoot over to his website to see if there’s a bigger and better one there. Of course since I have the original, I’m not all that concerned about it. LOL! Just a shame that you might be missing out on some of the gorgeous details that Jon crams into these pieces. Anyway, my thanks to Jonathan Wayshak, the mad genius himself. Appreciate you giving me a crack at this and especially for lugging it back home and then delivering it to me! You continually amaze me with your talent and creativity! (9/19/11) Thanks to Jonathan for sending me a nice, new, big scan of this magnificent piece. Still doesn't do it justice, but way better than the previous image! Social/Sharing |

Amazingly disturbing Eric. I do like it, as you already know. Congrats.

Insanely sick, this is what I call art! Thank you for letting us discover such artists - I would definitively place him in the same "talent vein" as Wade!!! Love it!

This is really a brilliant piece. Repulsive as all get out, and beautiful at the same time. One of those few times when the "this looks much better in person than the scan" line is probably abundantly true.

Still waiting to get a bigger scan from Jonathan, but even that will probably fail to do the piece justice. Anyway, I think this is the third Wayshak piece of mine that you've commented on, so I take it you're a fan. Can't say as I blame you, the boy's got mad skillz!

I really love this. There is such a beauty in the line work. It's like speaking French, you could be saying the most vulgar things, but it still sounds beautiful. Same with this art, the subject matter may be monstrous, but the execution is poetry.

I will be honest, don't know who this is, but I guess that is why CAF is so fantastic. With such an eclectic variety of different vision's depicted throughout all the galleries, one is bound to come across someone new to admire. A disturbingly, beautiful image. A new artist for me to appreciate! Thanks for sharing, Eric!

Disturbingly beautiful or beautifully disturbing - no matter how you combine them, those are the two words I get most often when I show people Jonathan's work. And they were the exact same two words that popped into my head the very first time I saw it. When you see these pieces in person, they are even more disturbing and even more beautiful. So happy you found him in my gallery. It is truly an honor and privilege for me to be able to shine a spotlight on artists like Jonathan! HIs gift and his talent certainly deserve to be seen!
