DescriptionAlthough I was fortunate enough to obtain a couple of McSpidey pages much earlier on before prices hit the stratosphere, I had no pages by Todd featuring a Spidey villain. This page not only features the Rhino (against my will and better sense, one of my favorite Spidey villains) but also Blacklash and the Scorpion (although the Scorpion isn't the villain in this particular issue; hence, his tail is ripped off by the Rhino as punishment for his disloyalty on this page). It is also the finale page to this particular issue.I was hesitant at first because panels 4 and 5 were paste-ups. However, they are, in fact, original art paste-ups that have been drawn on board and pasted onto the page (this was clear from the description and, on close viewing, the scan of the artwork itself). Most of all, they feature really nice images of Spidey (as does the very first panel) and present well when viewed in person. This page cost, as they say, a pretty penny but it's a "one and done" for me. Social/Sharing |

Thanks very much, Jason! Glad to be able to obtain this page at a price which, whilst very high, was not, in my view, unreasonable given today's prices.

Essential with appeal
Carry all your Todds
Across the comics field
When Spiders gaze at you
They're from the comic runs
Web lines when they swing through
You said
"You would show me, and choose McFarlane here"
Oh-yeah, you said
"You got Spidey, and you got McFarlanes"
Oh-yeah
He said, "I think I'm goin' to Boston
I think this art's has new life
Don't think I'll get another
Where no one knows my name
I'll get more of John Romita
I've tried Peter Parker
I think I'll get a cover
I'll budget out for frames"

A "one-and-done" indeed!
Great shots of Spidey, spaghetti webbing, action, rubbble, motion lines, ..and drawn from the absolute peak of Todd's drawing powers before the book went 2x/month.

(pretty funny that you won this one thinking those panels were stats.... i wonder if others did as well, as I actually thought this one sold a little light!)

The description stated "original art paste-ups", so I wasn't under the impression that there were stats when I bid for it.

I honestly can't say I ever saw you as a McFarlane guy, let alone of 3 pages, but I love the surprise! Very fun page with great hero and villain content! As for the pasted on panels, that has never bothered me in the least as it's a part of the whole process of making comics. As long as there's original art there, I'm good. Kudos on getting such a fine page!

Many thanks, Rubén! Yes, pasted on panels were quite common way back when. I didn't begin appreciating McFarlane's work on Spider-Man, but it has grown on me over time. For me at least, he came to represent a "modern" version of Ditko.

Thanks so much, Nick! As mentioned in response to Rubén, I wasn't an avid McSpidey fan (at least at the beginning), but this page spoke to me.

Many thanks, Ian! As mentioned, it was a page that just fit the bill for what I was looking for for a McSpidey page with at least one villain and Spidey.

Yup - one and done and tons of fun. GREAT selection of villains (I'm right there with you on Rhino... and would you believe I even like Whiplash/Blacklash?!?) and also the most important things: great McSpidey images! I'm curious as to the blue pencil note at the top of the page... What was on the back that was so important for Todd to see? Another fantastic add, CAB! Congrats!

Many thanks, Jason! The odd thing is - there is absolutely nothing on the back. Perhaps it was a post-it note? Perhaps it contained instructions that led to the pasted-in original art? Your guess is as good as mine!

Ah! Well in that case, you know it -must- be an "invisible" message written in lemon juice! What you'll need to do is hold it up over an open flame at semi-close distance to try and get the secret pirate code to show up… Good luck, and let us know how it goes, CAB! 😜

LOL! Jason, I prefer the Post-It sticker hypothesis!
