Description

The seller found this cartoon among a group of cartoons dated from 1895 and 1905. My research indicates that bathing suits of this kind were worn around 1900. The 4B on the bottom is a typical editor's mark to the printer, which indicates to me that it was published. My efforts to find an artist named Parker who might have done this have been unavailing, but that is not surprising given the time frame and how common the last name Parker is. The drawing style, especially of the two men is very familiar. If anybody has any insight into who the artist is, where this might have been published and if the two men were continuing characters, please let me know.

The ad is very saucy for something from the era and the girl looks more like a burlesque queen than a bathing beauty, especially with the high heels and the skirt flying high in the back, though apparently beach babes of the time did let the skirts rise like that sometimes. She's mighty cute.
