DescriptionSometimes you find yourself chasing something for a long period. This is one of those long-awaited pieces that you'll always try to get your hands on, no matter what, because you know it'll be special and one of a kind. Corrado Mastantuono is simply one of the best comic book artists out there. He works on top-selling Italian comic books, such as Topolino (Mickey Mouse magazine) and Tex (an adventure/western comic book), using different styles depending on what he's working on, either funny animals or something "realistic". He always shows incredible craftsmanship. I've been lucky to have him as a teacher at the SRF (Comic Books School, in Rome) in the early 90s and therefore had the chance to see him drawing live many times. It is something to behold! Characters come to life from his pencil, almost effortlessly. Impressive. And he can do wonders with color, too. A few years ago Bonelli published the Dylan Dog Color Fest 4, a special issue that featured 4 short stories of the supernatural private eye (the one from the comic books, not the awful Hollywood movie). The main differences between this special and the monthly Dylan Dog book are the short stories (instead of a longer one), the color (instead of black and white), and the artists' style that here is funny (whereas on the monthly book is "realistic"). The artists that worked on this special book are top-notch, from the cover drawn by Silver to the stories illustrated by Giorgio Cavazzano, Massimo Carnevale, Fabio Celoni, and... Corrado Mastantuono. I was blown away. Corrado's rendition of the characters was fantastic. I knew I had to ask him for a Dylan Dog illustration using that particular style. And I did. It surely took some time, but Corrado was finally able to find some time to work on what I asked him. And here it is. Dylan Dog and Groucho. A composition that kinda reminds me of Norman Rockwell's, where every detail is placed to tell you a story. To describe the characters. To describe what they are and what they do. Note the monster creature in the background, almost camouflaging. Just perfect! Published on the portfolio Dylan Dog "Monsters" by La Nona Arte Thanks, again, to Corrado for finding the time to create this gem!!! Paper size: 30 x 40 cm Social/Sharing |

Mastantuono is one o f the few artists to master both the funny and the realistic style. But tha amazing thing is that he has HIS OWN unique funny style and HIS OWN unique realistic style. This is a great illustration!
