Thanks to how affordable they are, I'm starting to put together a nice little collection of Luke McDonnell boards. This JLA page spotlights longtime villain Prof. Ivo. None of the heroes are spotlighted, but I like how the page tells a little story about Ivo in and of itself.

McDonnell makes great use of the nine-panel grid approach, with two of those panels being combined for one. It grants Ivo a greater presence and stature. I also appreciated the pattern illustrated on the carpet in the center panel; there's some whiteout on the carpet element to correct something, but I love touches such as that one as they demonstrate more of the process. The same goes for the editing marks, altered word balloons and lettering pasteups. And another aspect of the page that warms my heart is the pasted text at the bottom, instructing the reader that the story is "continued on 3rd page following." Love that old-school element.

Another neat thing about this page is the reverse, which boasts some rough figure drawings, a sketch of an aged, bearded man and what I assume is a rough panel layout for a different page.
