Description

This page was published in March 1972, penciled by Dick Dillin and inked by Joe Giella.

At 37 pages long, Justice League issue 97 had enough space to introduce a new a story as well as a complete re-telling of the JLA origin. That provided Dick Dillin the opportunity to pencil his interpretation of the origin story that was originally drawn by Mike Sekowsky in issue 9 a full decade earlier. Shown in the additional images area are side-by-side comparisons of the two comparable pages from both issues. In them we see Flash using his super speed to extinguish flame-beings, then subsequently joining Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter at another location where they are all being transformed into wood. The last panel on each page depict the basic cover scene from JLA 9, subject to minor variations.

My mother's cousin bought this issue as a gift for me about 25 years ago becasue she knew I read comic books. I later got it signed by Joe Giella and Julius Schwartz. Nice to see a page of original artwork from it. The linework by Dick Dillin & Joe Giella looks even better in the original black & white.
