Description

Rowena Morrill, Shadows Out of Hell Paperback Cover Preliminary (Berkley, 1980).

Pencil preliminary cover for Andrew J. Offutt's fantasy novel (originally titled Lady of the Snow Mist, as detailed at the bottom of the image).

Perhaps one of Morrill's most famous covers ever, not just because of the intentional paperback use but what followed later.

First the painting was used for the famous Metallica bootleg No Life Till Leather.
(It was just officially reissued by Metallica in 2015 as the best bootleg recording ever)

Last but not least, the painting was discovered in the bedroom-bunker of Saddam Hussein's secret love nest in Baghdad. The US army discovered several Morrill paintings in the building, among others "Retief og the CDT" that I also own.

Both are not currently on display in MY bedroom.
