Karate Kid vs. The Spirit by Dan Schkade and Brennan Wagner

I became a big fan of Dan Schkade's work when I read the excellent San Hannibal series. Last year, Dan teamed up with the very talented Brennan Wagner on Dynamite's The Spirit series and they turned out to be a creative match made in heaven! Seriously, go check out that book if you haven't already. Anyway, I asked Dan about drawing a Karate Kid vs. the Spirit commission and very soon afterwards he delivered this fantastic piece to me! I asked him about getting it colored, and Dan said that Brennan would be up for it, so shortly afterwards I passed it on to him for some gorgeous colors! I LOVE the layout of this commission. It's just like a cover or a splash page for a Karate Kid/The Spirit comic. The billboard in the background is too awesome, and I really like how the corner of the roof they were fighting on is collapsing. Dan went above and beyond here. And then Brennan elevated the piece even more in my eyes by adding some incredible colors. Sure, the characters look great, but also look at the lighting on the billboard, the different shades of bricks, the eerie fog and the windows Brennan added to the buildings! These two guys blew me away and I really hope that this is not the last piece I get from them! Thanks, Dan and Brennan!

Denny Colt is tough as nails, and usually somehow beats entire gangs of criminals with just his wits and two fists. That said, Val Armorr outclasses him in every way in terms of fighting skills. BUT, the Sprit also has a tendency to just get lucky every once in a while and win fights that he probably shouldn't. But yeah, Karate Kid is totally gonna win here! Sorry, Denny!

Oh Wow! For some reason I saw this on facebook and thought it belonged to someone else! Silly that I would even think that! The colors really make this pop! An easy win for Val here, but a unique fight just the same!
