Description

This is a very special piece, indeed! Original half splash art for "Weird" Adventure Comics #434 (DC - Aug., 1974) by such industry greats as Frank Thorne (pencils) and Jim Aparo (inks). Page is from the Michael Fleisher classic tale, "The Nightmare Dummies and...The Spectre." This cool scene depicts the climatic confrontation between the awesome Spectre and the old evil Ezekial "Zeke" Borosovitch. The entire creative team is firing on all cylinders here as this page features one of the greatest lines of the entire classic Adventure series, and perhaps one of the all-time greatest quotes in Spectre history when the Astral Avenger declares to his adversary, "You are wise to tremble, old man...I am...The Spectre...and when The Spectre comes calling, the lives of evil men are forfeit...!"

The Adventure Comics series from issues #431 through #440 represents, arguably, the most revered storylines ever done on the Spectre and original artwork from these books is downright near impossible to acquire. Fleisher's remarkable scripts are infused with raw primal power that presents the awesome Spectre as a no-nonsense relentless twilight hunter of evildoers, tracking down and disposing of his wicked adversaries with a frightening otherworldly vengeance, which set the perfect tone and overall mood for this supernatural superhero with such unmatched God-like powers. And the artwork is, of course, downright spectacular in every aspect. These stories left the stunned reader with a good healthy dose of the Fear of The LORD, which still resonates to this very day.
