DescriptionRiccardo Federici is probably the finest illustrator of his generation I've ever seen... a modern Caravaggio that happens to work also on comic books. His work on "La Madone de Pellini" and "Saria" for the French market is nothing less than astonishing.I had a few subjects that I would have loved to see him illustrating, but ultimately chose Batman (my favorite superhero), the Joker (my favorite villain), and Harley Quinn (I love her since Batman The Animated Series). I didn't ask for any particular situation or costumes, that's because I wanted to fully see Riccardo's take/vision of these characters. I already knew it would turn out incredible but it went far beyond that. Judge for yourself. A magnificent composition that gives each character the right space and where all of them express their true self (Batman here is so badass that you almost doubt who's the hero and who's the villain, it's a very thin line). The details are stunning, and the costumes of all the characters are simply breathtaking. And finally, the atmosphere, nocturnal, is a perfect fit for a Batman-themed illustration! Such a stunning piece. This commission motivated me to reach out to Riccardo. I've had a large Batman painting from him for about a month now, but still cannot show it as DC hasn't announced it yet :( Anyhow, exceptional painting once again...very happy DC is giving Riccardo continued work...perhaps the best color-painter in comics... what a gem!

Much appreciated. Can't wait to see your Federici Batman piece, I'm sure it's mesmerizing. And, yes, I do believe he's the best painter in the field right now. When I got this from Riccardo, he said to me that it was a curious coincidence I asked him this kind of subject since in that period he was in contact with DC to do some work for them, even if there was still nothing official yet, so fingers crossed! But I told him I was absolutely sure he would do wonders working on DC characters, both on illustration and sequential art. Guess I was not wrong :)

The lighting and the colors are amazing here, but the body language and facial expressions are what make this so incredible. Just too good!
