DescriptionDC Special Series 15 (AKA The Batman Spectacular) may have been the best of DC's "Dollar Comics". Hang the Batman is probably Mike's best drawn story up to that point, maybe ever. Yes, there was a real Neal Adams vibe to Batman. Yet in some instances, Batman didn't look much like any previous versions of the Batman. But it may have foreshadowed Don Newton's version of Batman. Mike's chiaroscuro was in high gear, aided and abetted by Joe Rubenstein (!) and zipatone. Seriously, the Nasser / Rubenstein art team is one of the best of their time. Never thought I'd ever get a page from David V Reed's noir-ish story... Quite a while back, in one of my ebay auctions, I tacked on a question asking if anyone knew about the art from this story. The guy who won that auction told me that he had all the pages to this story. I mentioned seeing the pages at a con when I first met Mike. He said that wasn't possible since he had gotten the pages directly from Mike soon after the story appeared. I didn't need to debate this point. But I distinctly remember holding this very page because... that last panel where Batman throws the batarang, when I was a kid, I tried to copy that panel a few times. Also, I remember the con because it happens to be the con where I first met Mike and he drew my Deadman. Those things you remember. Anyway, I'd heard enough about the owner to believe he'd never have to part with the art. So decades later, I was shocked to learn the art from this story was now available. As collecting Mike's art is right up my alley, I was definitely going to get some art from this story. Big itch. Scratched. Batman was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. Social/Sharing |

Wow. Fantastic page Will! I love this version of Batman and every panel is spectacular! What a perfect Batman page!
