DescriptionAlex Raymond artwork collectors are very much after beautiful ladies, at least when looking realized prices. However I am also interested about classic sports cars there in his artwork.Maybe not so widely known among comic art collectors is that Alex Raymond had pretty interesting cars himself, among them Jaguar XK120 Roadster (US model, naturally). And what he drove himself in real life, he draw his hero driving in daily strips! ;-) So, Rip Kirby is driving exactly the same model, that XK120 what Raymond had in his garage. I don't think the reason was that it was just easy for him to went into garage to check lines of the car for drawings. So, this daily strip is perfect for me, combining both gorgeous looking Jaguar XK120 Roadster with beautiful ladies! To have a bit bigger enjoyment, I used showcase-style framing, having space for 1:43 size die-cast model car next to Raymond's drawing. Unfortunately there is small differences with that die-cast Jaguar XK120, it is UK-model, so it is RHD, not LHD model. Bot otherwise looking perfect! The art is from the story "Whom the Gods Destroy" (sometimes also stated as "Monkey Business"), published in this book: http://loac.idwpublishing.com/shop/rip-kirby-vol-3-1951-1954/ I am also wanting to use floating framing for original artwork. "Normal" framing, meaning using passepartout on top of the artwork is fine for printed materials (in general just keeping the art away from touching the glass, for avoiding that picture would "burn" into the glass). This floating frame, I hope, is more honoring the artwork itself, presenting it as whole and remembering how it left artist's desk when went to printing house. Using also museum glass there, it is almost without any reflections, so you can not see it, it is like air! Really hilarious feeling when trying to touch that die-cast car, and hitting your finger into the glass which you don't see! ;-) For those who have never seen Raymond's Rip Kirby originals, 1:43 die-cast car gives an example of dimensions. IDW's book is printing this strip in 245x67mm, the actual inked artwork is 4-times bigger (circa 505x135mm) #AlexRaymond; #RipKirby Social/Sharing |

Excellent strip! i love the idea of framing the car with the strip. I'm going to try that with a Carol Day I have.
