DescriptionThere is maybe only 6 daily Rip Kirby strips when there has been 2 of Raymond's own cars presented in the same strip! I simply needed to acquire this artwork when it came for sale ;-)Our hero is driving naturally Alex Raymond's own Jaguar XK120 Roadster. Also with this framing (like with Rip Kirby 26.10.1953) I wanted to get 1:43 die-cast Jaguar XK120 next to Rip Kirby's panel where he is driving it. The 2nd car, driven by Jet Allyson is very rare car, it is Italian Bandini 750 Sport Siluro (1953). That car still exists, it has been auctioned in 2015 in London, detailed history is here: https://www.rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/LF15/London/lots/r137-1953-bandini-750-sport-siluro/180876. About that Rip Kirby's Jaguar XK120 Roadster I haven't found any info, it looks it hasn't survived. That Bandini Siluro is so rare car that nobody has ever produced any die-cast model, so I had nothing to place about it into my showcase framing. If you think that Raymond used "artist's freedom" when draw that Bandini, please look again old photo where he is sitting in his own Bandini. The windscreen there is just like he draw it. Later there has been rather used "restorer's freedom" to replace with a different design the windscreen in restoration. I used showcase-style framing, having space for 1:43 size die-cast model car next to Raymond's drawing. Again, the die-cast is UK-model car. Another reason to acquire this is not only the great artwork but its neat dialogue. Every panel could be taken and presented as single piece of pop art! Just look and enjoy ;-) ... and remember what Roy Lichtenstein did in 1960s; copied comic book panels from 1950s! What do you think is more clever piece of art to acquire: Alex Raymond's Rip Kirby original, or some Lichtenstein limited edition print? So, in the spirit of Roy Lichtenstein I made my own pop art now, without violation copyrights once having the real art too! ;-) Ordered made to measures 50x42cm print on canvas from the panel, and it works! It is great looking piece, could be easily 4-times bigger, and still working as pop-art! The art is from the story "Death on Four Wheels", published in this book: http://loac.idwpublishing.com/shop/rip-kirby-vol-3-1951-1954/ I am also wanting to use floating framing for original artwork. "Normal" framing, meaning using passepartout on top of the artwork is fine for printed materials (in general just keeping the art away from touching the glass, for avoiding that picture would "burn" into the glass). This floating frame, I hope, is more honoring the artwork itself, presenting it as whole and remembering how it left artist's desk when went to printing house. Using also museum glass there, it is almost without any reflections, so you can not see it, it is like air! Really hilarious feeling when trying to touch that die-cast car, and hitting your finger into the glass which you don't see! ;-) For those who have never seen Raymond's Rip Kirby originals, 1:43 die-cast car gives an example of dimensions. IDW's book is printing this strip in 245x67mm, the actual inked artwork is 4-times bigger (circa 505x135mm) #AlexRaymond; #RipKirby Social/Sharing |

This is my favorite strip that you have by far. I remember when this came up for auction I had bid on this, Congrats!
