Description

A beauty in ink and watercolor on a 7 x 9 (17.8 x 22.7 cm) board. For years I had been on the lookout for a Jeff Jones piece I would find special enough to acquire. This is the one. Although it is not dated Jones thought he had done it around 1973.

It first appeared as a tiny 3-inch black and white figure in the French collection *JONES* issued by the Paris publisher Futuropolis in 1976. Much later it was reprinted in color, in slightly larger than its actual size, in the IDW artbook *Jeffrey Jones: A Life in Art* (2011), p. 129.

There is quite a story about it. I bought it from a reliable collector in late November 2010 and it took 6 weeks to travel from Michigan to France in the transatlantic postal mess that resulted from that winter's many snowstorms. I thought it was lost but it was not. Was I happy when I finally picked up the package at my post office! I did not lose patience, Gary! Thanks again for selling it to me.

I remember when Gary bought this from Mitch Itkowitz at San Diego-I was a bit too late! Its a lovely piece and I wish I had gotten there ahead of Gary.

Magnificent. No one drew better women than Jeffrey. She had an uncanny ability to combine the romantic and the real -- they're deep.

I remember seeing and liking this in the past. It always struck me as Jones channeling Milton Caniff.
