DescriptionA real treasure in my collection. Only John Romita, Sr. can draw the beautiful Mary Jane as good as this. This was obtained when I saw John and his son, John, JR at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida in 2001.Waited in line for an hour 3 separate times over the course of the weekend. Each time I managed to make it to the front of the line, John would say he was going to stop sketching for a while and sign books. I was beginning to think I would never get a sketch. Finally, the last day of the con and I'm the last one in line. I get to the front and he asks me what I would like. As soon as I tell him Mary Jane, he blurts out, "Love that lady!" He does the sketch and then asks me, "Do you want any lettering?" Honestly, that's the first time any artist has ever asked me that and I said, "Yes." He asked what I would like and I told him, "The famous line, of course. Face it Tiger, you just hit the jackpot." He does the lettering, signs it and, as he's handing it to me, says, "Here you go! The drawing is free but, the lettering is $200.00!" At which point everyone cracks up laughing--including John, Jr.! One of my truly great memories of meeting one of my heroes! Oh, and later on I let some guy named Stan Lee sign the art, too. I think he has something to do with Marvel Comics! :-) Social/Sharing |

I guess patience really is a virtue. Great story, and great sketch!

Isn't it amazing what somebody brilliant can do with a pencil and paper?
