DescriptionLatest of the All-Star Squadron continuation commissions - issue #79, based on the cover of Avengers #54 and drawn by the always-amazing John Watson, who did a phenomenal job!As usual, this series homages the covers of comics written, plotted and/or scripted by Roy Thomas, and can feature any of the 1940s-set characters from DC, Quality, Fawcett and Charlton. In story terms - as we saw in issue #78, Baron Blitzkreig had distracted some of the All-Stars at a war bond rally while his accomplices captured some of the other Squadron members. The villains are now revealed as Kung, the Assassin Of A Thousand Claws; Nazi speedster Zyklon; and Armageddon (give yourselves a bonus point if you recall this character from Wonder Woman #233-236!) --- and the Baron reveals that Doll Man, Robotman and Amazing Man were targeted so that their powers and technology can be duplicated by Nazi scientists. The arrow-toting Spider, captured by accident, has no useful powers but will be shipped to Berlin for a show trial and execution. While other Squadron members search for the captive heroes - with the Shining Knight eventually finding them - it's ironically the Spider who frees them, kicking his discarded bow to Amazing Man who is able to take on the flexibility of the bowstring and escape from his bonds, before smashing the chains holding the other heroes. After a battle, Kung is wounded by one of the Spider's arrows and taken prisoner, but the other villains flee - and they'll reappear, with other members of the Axis team, in the final part of the trilogy next issue! (Or at least they will when I get it commissioned, hopefully before the end of the year.) Social/Sharing |

I agree, Shining Knight works well here, just like the GIANT Spectre was a smart substitution for Goliath, in the Lady Liberators/Avengers redo cover. Keep them coming....
