DescriptionNeon Genesis Evangelion is my favorite anime/cartoon ever. It has had a significant influence on how I think about life besides the fact that it is incredibly entertaining and well produced.I saw this image on twitter and instantly knew it had to be mine. This appears to the be the first art by Evan Cagle posted to CAF. Created to be made into a print, they are available on his site (for those that are still able to buy prints after collecting art) . It's 11X17 pen and ink done on scratchboard. The detail and composition are exquisite and I'm thrilled to be able to hold it and see it in person. Social/Sharing |

This is a terrific piece of art. What is scratchboard? Is the line work inked onto the board, or is it somehow subtracted with a scratching technique? Do tell!

Hi Scott, yes, it's on scatchboard, which was much heavier than I expected. There is a layer of clay on the board. The piece is almost all ink over the clayboard with the hatching on the lower portion (white lines) done with what I'm assuming is a knife. The upper Eva is all ink with touch ups to clean up the lines with knife. So, essentially, any of the white areas are a layer of clay either the original layer or scratched off with knife to create a fresh white line.

Awesome piece! Bebop takes the crown for me, but NGE is way up there.

I love Evangelion too, and this piece is BAD ASS. Seeing this makes me want to go watch the series again. I'm really enjoying flipping through your collection man. You've got some real cool stuff.

This is insane. I have a beautiful Delort scratchboard piece, would love to hang a Cagle next to it at some point.

My God, what a masterpiece! Feels like Franklin Booth trying his hand at Manga, but with oversize pages to allow for an outrageous level of detail. Love the mech design, and the composition and value control are superb.

Jaw-droppingly beautiful illustration! This piece really blows me away. The level of precision and artistry here are beyond words. Looking at this piece, I am reminded of Wrightson's Frankenstein. My sincerest congratulations.

Evan's work is stunning. I meant to get a piece a while back but it was sold too quickly. This one is just another gorgeous example of his work. Congrats on this stunning aquisition. It's top notch.
