DescriptionDaan Jippes is a Dutch cartoonist who drew Disney comics for European publications. I discovered his work when Bruce Hamilton's Gladstone Comics printed his work in the 1980's and 1990's. I found it the best looking Donald Duck artwork since Carl Barks. When my brother's Stuart Ng Books published an English-language version of Daan Jippes: Adventurer in Comics and Animation museum exhibition catalog by Jan-Willem de Vries and Bob Foster, the cartoonist arranged to travel from the Netherlands to California to do signing sessions at WonderCon Anaheim. Daan Jippes spoke at Disney Animation Studios and Dreamworks Animation in the days before the convention. When the cartoonist arrived at the convention and settled down, Stuart and I perused the artwork for sale and made our purchases. Daan draws on two A3 pages (about 12"x16") for each printed page. As often seen in comics for an international audience, the word balloons are empty. As we looked through the pages, the artist recalled many details about each and my poor memory did not catch them all. This story is a remake of a Carl Barks story drawn by Tony Strobl. The original one-line idea was suggested by animation historian Michael Barrier who was an aspiring cartoonist in 1965. My Jr. Woodchucks page indicates Carl Barks actually laid out the pages as well as writing the script. I still have to find a copy of the story, but have seen some commentary on it. Donald is a pilot with a delivery to complete in northern Canada. Scrooge, Huey, Dewey, and Louie are stowaways on the plane. At the destination, they encounter the sculptor Miss Minemore and the loup garou. On this upper page, the woman seems to be explaining to the ducks her efforts to complete her work and the meaning for the loup garou.Social/Sharing |

Congrats - and very nice examples of Jippes work. Btw : Jippes is Dutch - not Danish. ;-)

My error entirely. Thanks for pointing it out. I think I fixed all my entries.
