DescriptionKeeping my string of recent Spidey related posts going with this page from McNiven’s ASM arc, which kicked off the Brand New Day era back in ’08.This pick up was all about that top Spidey image. I wasn’t sure why I liked it so much when I saw it but I think I figured it out, or I tried, anyway. First, I like the sense of movement from the pose and bullets whizzing by hitting the wall behind him – cool stuff. Second, it’s just a great illustration. Realistic proportions but still an animated look and the inks by Vines are crisp and detailed. Some meticulous lines there on the webbing and the figure border! Lastly, I like how Spidey subtly breaks the panel all around – gives it a splashy kind of feel…but subtly! It actually reminds me of how/why I like a Bachalo page from ASM 595 I have – that sweet single figure shot. Check it out if interested: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1180631 Alright, friends, got more Spidey comin’ – stay tuned! Social/Sharing |

As well-stated as your excellent observations are in regards to this fabulous page, I certainly didn't need convincing about how awesome it is... :) Yup, that top panel is certifiably exquisite, but the artistic chops on display in the other three are just as delightful (okay, well, ALMOST... That top panel is REALLY great... :) )
Lovely figure work, gas cloud detail, and composition make this one a winner, all around. Congrats on another stellar addition to your excellent collection, K!

Thanks for extending my description, Jason ;) Now I dig the piece even more! Seriously, though, thanks for the comments, man, and thanks to others for your comments as well!

Sometimes all you need is one 'money' panel to make a memorable page, and this one does the trick. Keep these great Spidey pieces comin'!

McNiven's Spidey is classic and Dexter always does a great job with the inks. Everything came together to make this page awesome. Great pickup K!

McNiven Spidey is tasty. I wish he would go back to the monthly series, even if just for an issue or short arc.
