Description"Duckenstein di Mary Shelduck" is the last and final chapter in the Disney gothic horror trilogy (after "Dracula di Bram Topker" and "Lo strano caso del Dottor Ratkyll e di Mister Hyde") by Bruno Enna and Fabio Celoni.First published in Topolino magazine #2945 and 2946 (2012) and then reprinted many times in Italy. For the latest reprint, a Superdeluxe edition (hardcover, huge format, high paper quality), Fabio Celoni created a new cover that is also his first Disney painted cover. Here it is, a true gem, pure Celoni's magic, combining watercolor and tempera techniques. In the additional images the published piece, please note that the artist did apply some changes, digitally. Clearly inspired by Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", it presented a great challenge to the authors since there are things in the novel that cannot be used in a Disney story on Topolino magazine (e.g. a creature created by using corpses), but ultimately they find a way to make everything work: Victor von Duckenstein (Donald Duck) creates Growl, the creature, by using cartons thus resulting in an "animated cartoon". The authors then amazingly play with the concept of creation (both in life and Art) and creator... not exactly Mary Shelley's theme (showing human people's arrogance challenging God in creating life) but the themes of diversity and artistic creation are similarly very deep and profound. Here's an amazing painted (tempera) illustration by Fabio Celoni, realized for La Nona Arte 2018 project to celebrate the 200 years anniversary since Frankenstein was first published, showing all the main characters in the story. The composition is loosely inspired by "The Bride of Frankenstein" movie poster (see additional images). We've come to greatly appreciate Fabio's outstanding pen and ink work, rich of details and beautiful crosshatching, nevertheless his painted work is equally stunning. This piece beautifully complements Fabio's Dracula Superdeluxe cover (also in my collection) and, being a huge fan of both Stoker and Shelley's characters, this feels incredibly satisfying ^_^ Please also find in my gallery other pieces related to the Gothic trilogy: - Dracula painted cover - Ratkyll, The Haunted page - Dracula/Jonathan Ratker convention sketch - Dracula/Phantom Blot convention sketch - Ratkyll & Hyde/Pipperson with axe convention sketch - Ratkyll & Hyde/Donald Hyde convention sketch - Duckenstein/Victor von Duckenstein & Growl convention sketch Huge thanks to Fabio and La Nona Arte!!! Congrats on another Disney masterpiece by Celoni! His style is so dramatic and powerful that I would be very curious to see him work as a painter/illustrator on more adult characters and themes
