DescriptionContinuing my core Avengers team posting with this Andy Kubert Cap page!I LOVE Kubert’s work from this Cap run (see other pages I own!) with writer Mark Waid. Everything was on point IMO from covers to splashes to panel pages, etc. Common thread was the energy, with so many dynamic images. This page is part of one of my favorite action sequences. This is the middle/page 2 of 3. Cap was possessed by Nightmare to set off a nuclear missile, but after breaking free of Nightmare’s control, he’s gotta undo his, er, slipup, of course with the clock ticking. He disables the bomb, but the missile is still going to fire. Cap’s stuck, and the only place he may make it through “is in the heart of the launchflame!” Page 1 of the sequence sees him descending on the missile and sticking his energy shield in the hull. Page 2 (this one) sees him slide down and dive at the base. The page 3 splash sees him shield himself in the center of the launchflame. Just love the whole thing. See the additional 3 published images to check it out! Hope you like, but another reason for the post, is to see if anyone knows where the page prior and the page after are. I would REALLY like to complete the 3 page sequence so if there are any leads, I’d appreciate y’all letting me know! Thanks! Social/Sharing |

I remember this page vividly and this was an excellent issue from that run! I feel strongly about Waid and Kubert's Cap as well!

Much appreciated from a fellow fan of this run, Karim - you’ve got a couple nice ones yourself :) Thanks, all, for the comments as always!

Hey no problem, John! I felt I kinda had to post all 3 pages in sequence to get across what I like so much about the page - a nice Kubert example in and of itself but it really stands out as part of the set! Just need to get ther other 2 :) And good luck on your Kubert hunt - there are definitely some options out there. Stay vigilant!

What a rush of energy from panel to panel! I love how Cap uses his shield to control his descent down the missile. The magnitude of what he is doing is conveyed so beautifully by the use of scale, and then you get that great close-up. Great stuff!

Rock and a hard place.
Superb.
This is what a superhero page should be.

Eggzzzactly, John! When I think back to the Waid/Kubert run they put Cap in a lot of these precarious situations, giving him the legit opportunity to hero UP! Thanks for the comment, man!
