Description

This is Andrea Freccero's cover to the book "Capolavori della Letteratura - Il Milione" published in Italy by Giunti and inspired by the Disney story "La storia di Marco Polo detta Il Milione".

The story is a Disney parody of "Il Milione", the famous work that Rustichello da Pisa, Marco Polo's captivity companion, wrote under his dictation.
The work contains the narration of Marco Polo's adventures in the East. The Disney story co-written by Guido Martina and Romano Scarpa and drawn by the latter, was released in four separate episodes from 28 November to 19 December 1982 on "Topolino" #1409-1412.

The story is not a real parody of the literary work, it is mostly a graphic transposition of the events narrated by Rustichello, without exaggerations or comic elements. Obviously the work was fictionalized and freely revisited in a Disney key.

I find Freccero's cover amazingly effective in quickly and clearly delivering the message... it really takes you only a fraction of second to understand what this is about, exploration and key locations of the story.
Also, I love the Disney parodies/transpositions and I find this one to be really good... and probably one of the most notable Scarpa's works in the 80's, or at least the one I enjoyed the most (together with the strip-stories).
