My first color piece by (and from) Jonathan Wayshak. Now I’m not a gamer, so when he told me that this was a video game character named Doctor Mundo, that didn’t mean anything to me. I kind of thought of it as just another color of Hulk. I mean, there’s a green Hulk, a grey Hulk, and a red Hulk. So why not a purple one? I just saw it as a really cool and really fun painting. Love the spiked hair, the single tooth under bite, and that tongue hanging out. Plus, I didn’t yet own any color work by Jon. So a cool first.

The background from Jon was that he was hired by Riot Games (the company who produces the League of Legends game) to do a series of paintings of the character as either packaging art or advertising art. So he then proceeded to create about a dozen wonderful paintings that were submitted to the company. For whatever reason, the project fell through and his beautiful work was never used. The one bit of good news is that he WAS paid for all of his hard work.

I guess the other bit of good news (at least for me) is that Jon was able to bring all of these paintings with him when he dropped off my commission piece. If I didn’t already owe him for the commission (and two other pieces I picked out from his stack of art), I probably would have grabbed a couple more of the Mundo paintings. Anyway, the pieces vary in size and content. For whatever reason, I gravitated toward this one. As per Jonathan, it was executed in ink, marker, acrylic, and colored pencil on 9.5 x 16 heavy illustration board. My first (but hopefully not my last) painting from the supremely talented Mr. Wayshak.

Thanks again to Jonathan for trucking all the way down here to drop off all my gorgeous artwork. Glad we got to sit and chat for a while (and even had time for me to pull out some of my artwork to check out and chat about). Looking forward to not only my next purchase, but your next visit.
