Description

Deceptively complex, crazily detailed, with a delirious sense of line and volume, Jim Blanchard is an unsung hero for the underground indie comics scene in the '90s.

In the '90s, I picked up Bad Meat as another American indie import, but the stories were so off-kilter and the art so seemingly without a coherent style, that it quickly became a favourite of mine...that long wait between issues! This cover creeped me out, and so was a must-buy!

Jim is an penciller, an inker, an illustrator with a fine and detailed psychedelic imagination...and all-round awesomely weird human. Check out his Big Cartel store, and pick up the collected volume of his work 'Visual Abuse' (Fantagraphics, 2019).

As well as the cover, Jim also sent a copy of the comic, the printer's proof, and the hand-cut zip-a-tone color separations. Apparently this was not the original cover for BM#3, but, Jim sez "That cover was initially for a book about White Trash by a woman whose name escapes me� Her publisher rejected it, but I thought it was perfect for Bad Meat!"
