Description

An incredible illustration board painted by Ron Embleton (1930-1988) for a comic adaptation of 'The Ring of Nibelungs' (Der Ring des Nibelungen)-a cycle of four epic music dramas composed by Wagner. The works are based on characters from Norse sagas and the Nibelungenlied.

In this fantastically painted page, Siegmund, the son of the God Woton, frees his childhood sweetheart from a hunter's house. Arming himself with a sword he frees from a mighty oak tree, they run. Unfortunately for them, Fricka, Goddess of Justice insists Sieglinde now belongs to the hunter. Fricka forces Woton to descend from the heavens and he smashes Siegmund's sword, allowing the hunter to kill his son.
