DescriptionI reframed this today, so took the opportunity to make a scan of it. By artist John Richard Flanagan, it's from the June 1939 issue of the pulp, Blue Book, where it illustrated "The Lady and the Unicorn" by the prolific H. Bedford-Jones.Social/Sharing |

That is one of the more desirable issues of Blue Book with TWO Flanagan illustrated stories within! I recall this image being divided between two pages (and JRF usually left an unillustrated gap for the spine gutter), but this is amazing with the full spread of art uninterupted!!

PS. What is going on with the flames? Is he using white paint or scratchboard-like technique?
