Description

Acrylic on canvas, 48" x 32". This is a big one!

We saw a print of the cover Jim did of artwork for Newcon Press that they divided in fourths and used for 4 different book covers generally referred to as the Martian Quartet. I contacted Jim to see if the art was available for purchase and he said it was done digitally. I was at first discouraged that there wasn't an actual physical work of art, but then asked if I could commission him to do a painting of it. He agreed as long as he could make it somewhat different from his original design. That was great, because I only wanted a recreation of my favorite part, which was the left half, and some changes could be nice. Jim thought it would be good to make the attacking ship more aggressive looking (which pleased me no end!) and we discussed several other changes as well.

Needless to say, Jim did an absolutely spectacular job! And this is HUGE! There are so many things to love in this painting; wonderful depth and action, and the memorable Burns ship design, attacking tripods, and so much more! And for all you War of the Worlds lovers, how can you beat a Burns painting of an attack scene with Martian tripods on Mars!? And to top it all off, the painting was completed the day the Perseverance rover landed on Mars! Perfect!
