I'm delighted to add this to my Dave Cockrum prelim cover collection, even though it was by far the most expensive prelim I own. Dave put a tremendous amount of detail into this one and it almost could have been published as is.

The published cover was by George Perez inked by Pablo Marcos. Perez was still fairly early in his career at this point, so maybe Dave decided to make the sketch very detailed to avoid any potential issues.

As a reminder, I'm always interested in very finished Cockrum cover prelims, similar to the ones in this gallery.

Yeah, Dave Cockrum was on staff at Marvel in the late 70's and did a lot of these prelims for other artists. Most of them aren't so detailed though.

Nice to compare this tight pen work to the Marie Severin ones who used more inks and wash.

Such a fun prelim, captures the essence well, but a lot more comical. Very cool to see the original idea and what it transformed into. Congrats!
