DescriptionEsad Ribic has a fascinating, and sometimes frustrating, working process. If you compare his published work to the original art, you'll often find panels or other elements of the published work completely missing. Sometimes it's a complete guess whether those missing elements were digital, reused from another page, or drawn wholly separate as a patch. Here we have an interesting example of the latter - a board with patches for two different pages. This board contains the entirety of the 2nd panel of Thor: God of Thunder #3, Page 13 as well as a background element - a starving unicorn - from Page 5. Honestly, if I didn't know this patch existed, I probably would've assumed the unicorn was added digitally. The page also includes a blue pencil prelim of an Iron Man image that went unused. There's no way to tell it from my art collection, but Iron Man is one of my favorite characters and a focus of the comic collection I was putting together before I discovered art. It was exciting to pick up a highly detailed depiction of the character by one of my favorite artists from one of my favorite stories. The Thor image was also used in Thor: God of Thunder #20 - #25 as the recap page image. Thanks to Tom H for pointing this out! Published: December 19, 2012 Social/Sharing |

Nice sleuthing Dark Knight Detective! That unicorn is definitely eating that creature's corpse.

Really cool to see and learn a bit about some of the more unique production processes used with the OA. And here, got that great shot of a soaring 2 of the Big 3 Avengers rendered exquisitely by Ribic. Congrats, Rob!
