Description

The summer of 1989 saw the release of the blockbuster movie Batman (Warner Bros.), starring Michael Keaton as Batman, Jack Nicholson as the Joker, Kim Basinger as Vicki Vale and directed by Tim Burton. The film grossed over $400 million worldwide at the box office, propelled by an unprecedented surge of �BATMANIA� so intensely potent, that I've never experienced anything close to it, before or since.

In conjunction with the movie release, Galerie Michael, located on the famed Rodeo Drive in the heart of Beverly Hills, put on a one man gallery showing for Bob Kane, the creator of Batman entitled, BATMAN AN AMERICAN ICON FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY - JULY, 1989. This wonderful poster was one of two (the second was a Joker) that was produced to promote the show. This gorgeous poster featured a vintage Batman over Gotham City oil painting by Kane in the artist's celebrated and very early, dark mysterioso mood as Batman was originally created back in 1939.
