I was too young for American Flagg! when it was first coming out, but I picked up the back issues in the late 1990s and couldn’t believe how many other books that I had read had been so clearly influenced by it. I spent the early 2000s picking up all of Chaykin’s prior work that I could find, and was thrilled when he signed on to do a few issues of Hawkgirl with Walt Simonson as the writer in 2006.

That small inset panel is seduction 101. The ink job overall hits the pleasure center of the brain and jabs it into submission.
